Employment
The Employment Law Group is well established across all levels of call. We aim to provide practical advice and support in a changing legal landscape requiring particular knowledge and expertise. Acting for both employers and employees we undertake work in tribunals, civil and appellate courts throughout the UK, foreign jurisdictions, and in the European Court of Justice.
Members of the Group have in depth experience of employment and employment related work, both in litigation and advisory capacities, including discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, employee status, variation of contractual terms, and discretionary bonus pay.
Recent high profile cases include Neary v St Alban’s Girls High School (CA), Autoclenz v Belcher (CA), and Palacios de la Villa v Cortefiel Servicios SA (ECJ).
Members routinely undertake non-contentious work, typically arising in the course of business to business transactions, restructuring of the labour force, and local authority procurement exercises. Such work often requires a degree of teamwork with other disciplines and a sympathetic understanding of overall commercial and social objectives.
Many junior members of the Group have in house experience with local authorities, City and international solicitors firms. A number of more senior members are qualified mediators, are cited as leading juniors in the legal directories, and hold part-time judicial appointments, including that of Employment Judge.
Patrick Green and Adam Heppinstall are authors of “The Manual of Employment Appeals”, (Jordans, December 2008), which has been favourably cited in the Court of Appeal.
