Why You?
We look for candidates who work hard but who also know how to relax.
We want people with their feet on the ground, not their heads in the sky.
We want you to have a sound intellectual base (however obtained) but we also want you to be a well-rounded individual who will relate well to your clients.
You will need drive and commitment. We want you to enjoy training to be, and working as, a barrister.
You are going to need to enjoy it as it is also going to be hard.
We want you to like our practice areas and to aspire to work in them. We want you to be passionate about providing the best possible service to your clients. We want you to have the grit and determination to grow and run your own business, expand your client base and become a successful member of the bar.
In short, we want high flying and successful students of the law, but we also want people rooted in the commercial and political realities of our clients – we want real humans who enjoy themselves and relate to the clients whom they are going to represent.
We are looking for a first class intellect, whether exemplified by a first class degree or first class commercial or other relevant experience. A silk has just retired from Chambers who had no degree at all.
We are very happy to receive pupillage applications from those who have come to the bar from another career. We are also happy to consider those transferring from another legal profession, whether within the British Isles or the Commonwealth or beyond and we have an excellent track record in producing high quality tenants who have previously qualified in another legal profession.
In short, if you can match our expectations as set out above, nothing should prevent you from seeking a successful pupillage at Henderson Chambers.
