Mini Pupillage
Mini-pupillage at Henderson Chambers provides the chance to spend some time with members of Chambers seeing what they do on a day-to-day basis. Because of the variety of areas of law in which we practice, it is also an opportunity to sample different areas of law.
We like to provide mini-pupils with a realistic impression of life at the bar. We therefore try to ensure that our mini-pupils see a broad cross-section of our areas of expertise. If you have an interest in a particular field of law then please say so and we will do our best to pair you with a barrister who will be able to talk with you about your interest.
A key aspect of life in Chambers is socialising with each other and we also hope that you will be able to meet members of Chambers in a non-work capacity, over lunch or over coffee, or just when someone pops into another member's room for a catch-up.
As well as seeing life in Chambers, we ensure that mini-pupils get to go to Court and tribunals as much as possible in order to witness the cut and thrust of advocacy.
Our mini-pupillages can last up to three days. However, we appreciate that for some three days might be too long, perhaps due to academic or work commitments. As such, we are happy to offer shorter mini-pupillages where appropriate (one or two days).
We pay travel expenses incurred shadowing members of chambers, such as attending Court or a conference out of Chambers.
We also recognise that for those who live outside the capital, it can be expensive to stay in London. We offer up to 15 bursaries every year of £200 each to candidates who are likely to have difficulty meeting the costs of attending a mini pupillage with us. Please complete the relevant parts of the application form if you would like to be considered for a bursary. Such a request will have no bearing on your application.
Mini-pupillages at Henderson Chambers are not assessed and play no formal role in the recruitment of pupils. However, we do encourage those considering applying to Henderson Chambers for pupillage to undertake a mini-pupillage with us because it enables you to make a more considered decision as to whether we are the sort of Chambers, on both a professional and personal level, that you would like to join. We want to get to know our future intake of pupils (and tenants) and mini-pupillage can help us to do that too.
We look forward to receiving your application and hope to see you soon.
